‘True gentleman’ – Heartbroken family pays tribute to ‘dearly loved’ farmer, 51, who sadly died in Kerry farm accident

TRIBUTES are being paid to a farmer who lost his life in a workplace accident on Tuesday.

Fionnain Lynch, 51, from Kilfountain, died following an accident on a farm near Dingle town in Co Kerry.

It is understood that construction work had been taking place on the farm.

Paying tribute to Mr Lynch – who also goes by O’Loinsaigh – local Fianna Fail councillor Brendan Fitzgerald said he was well-respected in the community.

The local rep said: “He was a lovely man who was well-known in the area.

“He would run a B&B as well as farming.”

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.”

Another friend said: “My deepest sympathies to all of Fionnan’s family on such a tragic loss.

“It was a pleasure dealing with Fionnan over the past seven years.
“Lots of banter and haggling in the calf shed in Kilfountain. It will be sorely missed. A true gentleman.”

‘Dearly loved brother’

He is survived by siblings Maire, Sean, Eibhlín, Aine and Ronan.

The family paid tribute to their “dearly loved brother” following his unexpected death.

A death notice online read: “The death has occurred of Fionnán Lynch (Ó Loingsigh), Kilfountain, Dingle.

“Fionnán passed away unexpectedly on the 10th of September 2024.

‘Sadly missed’

“Beloved son of the late Micheal and Kathleen Lynch (nee Bowler) and dearly loved brother of Maire, Sean, Eibhlín (Casserly), Áine (Knightly) and Ronan.

“Sadly missed by his loving sisters in law Kathleen and Ann-Marie, brothers in law Paul and James, adored nieces and nephews Sarah, Seamus, Ciara, Roisin, Cormac, Darragh, Caitriona, Eoghan and Cuan. Deeply regretted by his uncles Donal, Sean and Batt Lynch and Sean Bowler, aunts Maureen (Power), Aine (Veale) and Bernie (Hickey), relatives, kind neighbours and a large circle of friends. RIP.”

He will be reposing at O’Connor’s Funeral Home in Dingle on Friday evening from 4pm to 8pm ahead of his funeral mass the following morning at 11am in St Mary’s Church.

He will head to St Brendan’s Cemetery for interment.

Garda statement

Following the tragic accident a garda spokesperson said: “Gardai and emergency services attended the scene of a workplace accident which occurred Dingle, Co. Kerry on Tuesday afternoon, September 10, 2024, at around 4:30p.m.”

They also confirmed that Mr Lynch was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Gardai added that a file was to be be prepared for the local coroner’s court.
