Discovering the Fairy Tree, a Hawthorn Workshop

29th May @ 10:30 am - 4:30 pm

What is so special about the Fairy Tree? Whitethorn, May Tree and Hawthorn are but a few of its common names. Steep in folk tales and myth, the hawthorn tree can be found throughout our landscape, in fields, mountains, along hedgerows and beside homes.

This tree, sacred to the people who lived on the Island of Ireland, carries many secrets. Beyond the stories and tales surrounding the fairy folk, one meets a powerful medicine when studying Hawthorns. It is a calendar of the year and it provides many health benefits.

The Hawthorns will be in full bloom during this workshop where you will learn all about the tree and it’s uses as food and medicine.

The morning will begin with a herb walk around the beautiful Carrauntoohil Eco Farm at the foot of the tallest peak in Ireland, where you will encounter Hawthorn alongside many other native wild Irish plants and hear all about their forgotten traditional uses and folklore.

We will then stop for a delicious lunch of simple fair that will show case some of our wild edibles from the morning’s herb walk as well as some of the foods from Ireland’s finest artisan producers.

The afternoon will be spent looking in greater detail how our Ancestors used Hawthorn and the stories surrounding it. We will be harvesting and processing the flowers, we will do a herbal tea tasting and learn how to make an elixir using Hawthorn which you will be able to bring home with you.

Deposit Ticket for one person is 40€ (60€ cash to be brought on the day of event)
